MYLAR BAG / OXYGEN ABSORBER USER INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE NOTE:  the information below, are only guidelines.  Please do your own research and ensure you are familiar with the correct storage processes.  Be aware of food borne illnesses such as botulism, when food is stored incorrectly.

Different food types have different densities which affects the weight in kg and the oxygen absorbers required.

Feel free to use this online calculator: https://pro-ex.com.au/oxygen-absorber-cc-calculator/

09 x 13 + 3 cm = approx 0.2 kg (200g) = oxy absorber needed:

1 x 80

80 cc

11 x 16 cm = approx 0.2 kg (200g) = oxy absorber needed:

1 x 80

80 cc

13 x 18 cm = approx 0.4 kg (400g) = oxy absorber needed:

1 x 80

80 cc

17 x 24 cm = approx 0.7 kg (700g) = oxy absorber needed:

1 x 120

120 cc

18 x 26 + 3 cm = approx 0.8 kg (800g) = oxy absorber needed:

1 x 120

120 cc

23 x 35 + 3 cm = approx 2.7 kg (2 700g) = oxy absorber needed:

2 x 200 cc

400 cc

(The 23 x 35 bag may require additional oxygen absorbers, depending on the food type stored.  You may have to purchase additional oxygen absorbers for this.)

TAKE NOTE:  It helps to push out as much air from the bag as you possible can.

Put in the oxygen absorber, press the bag flat or bend the top over whilst running your hand over the bag, forcing out as much air as possible, then seal it up.  Forcing as much air out as possible, will help your oxygen absorber be more effective.  The more air is in the bag, the more oxygen absorbers you will need, which will be a waste, if you can instead squeeze out as much air as possible.

Oxygen absorbers absorb oxygen only, which is just 20.94% of air we breathe.  Thus only 20.94% inside the bag, will be “vacuumed”.  Therefore it helps to squeeze out as much air as possible.

Also, oxygen absorbers must be kept “fresh” and not be left out as they start absorbing oxygen as soon as they are exposed to it.

So, plan your packaging day and strategy and ensure you can immediately re-seal unused absorbers right after opening them.  It is best to re-seal them first, before sealing your food stocks.  A household food saver vacuum sealer will be effective.

This must all be done, preferably within 10 minutes, but if you can do it in a shorter time, better.  Hence our oxygen absorbers come in smaller quantities like 10 in a packet as opposed to 100 or 200 in a packet, so you do not risk losing stock due to inefficiency.
